My blog

My name is Angie Ordóñez and I am 20 years old. I attended primary school in Itagüí (Itagüí is a Colombian municipality located in the south of the Aburrá Valley in the department of Antioquia) in a public school called "Itagüí City Educational Institution". I remember very well that the Mayor of Itagüí had a development plan called "Itagüí Único". And one of its components was Education and Culture. For this, one of the activities they did was to go to the Official Institutions and take a tour with the students through the city of Medellín. That has been one of the best experiences in my life. Because he enjoyed while learning. I remember that we started the day at the Institution very early. The people in charge of the staff gave us some shirts, caps, snacks and some details to later go to the bus that was going to make our transport around the whole city.

During the whole trip we were accompanied by a tourist guide. That told us the history and culture of each place we visited and also of the places we could see during the tour. The tour had some main places to visit among them was the botanical garden of Medellin, the park of desires, the park barefoot, the Palace of Culture, the Planetarium of Medellin "Jesus Emilio Ramírez González", the Library Park León de Greiff, Library Park Santo Domingo Savio Spain, The Museum of Antioquia among others.

The place that I liked the most was the Botanical Garden. What most caught my attention was the large number of species of fauna and flora that lodge there. Among the ornamental species were some known in the urban context as purslane, Adam's rib and bad woman. The collection of the Botanical Garden has 86 native and introduced species, distributed in 52 genera and approximately there were about 1,200 trees. In addition, in the Botanical Garden there was an auditorium, a library, the desert garden, the orquideorama, a nursery, a herbarium and a large green area. In this place we do many didactics with all my colleagues, in order to learn about the environmental diversity of Colombia.

It is amazing how many beautiful places there are in the city of Eternal Spring, distinguished by its spring weather, and the warmth of its inhabitants, and the sense of belonging they have of their city. Medellín is one of the places that I recommend visiting because of its cultural diversity. Living this experience was great, because I learned many things, shared with my colleagues and allowed me to value my cultural heritage even more. On the other hand I also support projects that have this approach of community integration to education, art and culture, because they allow the development of the country.
